You may have noticed that the default skin for the site (the one you see before you log in) has changed to a much more minimalist look. Unfortunately, the bandwidth for the site went through the roof last month and I'm having to take steps to minimise it wherever possible, and the most obvious place to do that is to change the default skin to one using smaller files.

This will not change your personal skin. When you log in, you'll still see whatever skin you've personally chosen. All of the other skins are still there so please do not panic.

Unfortunately, it was this or risk the site disappearing for part of the month, as it almost did last month.

The new default skin looks great, especially on the home page. But on story pages the header image forces the minimum width too wide for comfortable reading.

Can that be tweaked?

I've changed the table width to be slightly narrower (90% rather than 95%) but it's a trade off, I'm afraid, between making the story easy to read at all screen resolutions, i.e. still narrow enough to be read at 800x600 but wide enough not to look silly at 1024x728 or higher resolutions.

The header image should be narrow enough to be viewed at 800, but wide enough that it's not too small at 1024 or higher, and can still be viewed fairly easy on webtv, which wasn't the case with the previous skin (but then there weren't many webtv users using the site, and that's changed too).
