Repost - Adding additional characters to the archive
It's been a while since we mentioned it, and I've had a recent query, so here's a refresher. I'm also going to put it in the help file for future reference. My apologies for the oversight - I thought it was in there already but could only find it in the news archive. So if there's now two copies, you know it's because of me ::g::

---

New pairing categories are added if there are a certain number of stories in the archive containing that pairing - at the moment, it's around 10 but changes depending on how big the archive gets. In addition, pairing categories are only added if one (in the case of Character/other) or both (Character A/Character B) characters are included in the list of characters on the site.

A new character is added to the list if they meet the following criteria:

--The character is in several episodes (as in, at least five) of Stargate: Atlantis, where they make some kind of significant contribution, rather than just being the same face in the background or with the occasional line.

--The character must have both a first and last name in canon. (An exception was made in the case of Major Lorne, because he has been in several episodes of Stargate: SG1 as well as SGA, and has made significant contributions, despite never being given a first name in canon. Yet. We're waiting ::g::)

--The character must have had a number of stories submitted to the archive that feature him or her in a significant role.

I hope that explains the process. As usual, if you have any questions about this or anything else to do with the archive, please don't hesitate to contact the archivists. :)

I thought Lorne's name was Evan. Or am I making that up? :-)

I don't think it's actually been confirmed in canon, yet. Which is why I said 'we're waiting' ::g::

Nope, you're not making it up. :-)

According to IMDB, Kavan Smith has played "Major Evan Lorne" in both SGA and SG-1. (I think the SG-1 listing was changed after they decided on a first name for the character. In Runner, if I remember correctly, he was only listed as "Major Lorne" in the end credits.)

in The Last Man the name plate on the desk says Gen. E. Lorne and in a gateworld interview "Abstract Lorne" they talk to Kavan about it finaly being Reviled that the characters name is Evan

GW: But in "The Last Man", we see that his first initial is "E". And it's been confirmed by some of the production staff and writers since -- that it was cut out of the episode -- but that his first name is Evan. Did you have a preference as to what you preferred it would have been?

KS: The only thing -- I know the fans kind of had this thing about some bizarro names. And I was fine with anything that wasn't bizarro. One was "Spanski." And I don't understand what the h--- that was supposed to mean. But anything would have been fine. I think "Evan" is great. I know an Evan. He's a nice guy.

I was just at a convention with Kavan Smith, and he said that Lorne's name became Evan because there is an episode where he is flying, and on the flight suit they needed to put his full name so the director chose Evan for his first name. They figured that the fans would catch any continuity errors if they changed the name, so Kavan was told that Lorne's first name was Evan no matter what, even if the writers hadn't quite figured it out yet.

Ten points of awesomeness to whoever finds out what episode it was!

I was at a P3 this yeah and Kavan made a comment about his name being Evan and that for a while he didn't have a first name.

It's been mentioned in a couple magazines too. The Stargate DVD & Magazine collection did a two page data file on him and one of the bimonthly mags mentioned it as well
