Excellent look at John and the way his mind works. I've not seen the ep yet, but there was plenty here to make the story clear. I could so easily see John like this, so quick to reassure Carson that he wasn't to blame, yet unable to heed those words when it came to his own actions. He strikes me as the sort who would wander while trying to work things through, almost subcionsciously patrolling his domain and checking that there's nothing else going wrong. I liked how he could only rest once he was back with his team again. Laura.

Author's Response: Thank you for taking the time to leave me such a wonderful review. I'm so happy that you enjoyed the story, and that my character matched your view (which is obviously mine also;-D ) of the "real" one; it's something that I work hard to achieve.

Great story, everyone in character and a perfect portrait of Sheppard. I think we share a view of a man of action who needs to assess his performance in a very personal and thoughtful way. It is nice to have the hero be an interesting person, with values and self-awareness. Thanks for sharing your gift.

Author's Response: Thanks for the great review. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. As I said in my notes, I'm usually all about the whump, the h/c; but I think the show's writers tend to gloss over the introspective side of Sheppard's character, so sometimes we fanfic writers need to do it ourselves. ;-)

Wonderful, in-depth look at how Sheppard deals and manages to keep on dealing with all the potentially mind-breaking situations constantly thrust upon him. Very well written; thank you for posting.

Author's Response: I'm very happy you enjoyed. Writing angst is sooo much harder than whump! But when the show's writers won't do it, we fans just have to take care of it ourselves.

I'm so glad to have finished posting my long story, so now I have time to read! What a great ficlet this is. Not enough has been shown about John's reaction to shooting Rodney and Ronon in "Phantoms." In this sense, every episode, even one as incredible as that one, is a stand-alone. I really like what you have done with this, showing John's turmoil and how he resolves it by being with his team and making certain that they are alright. I also like the scene where he is cleaning his gun, which is so symbolic of wiping away the guilt and the darkness he is experiencing. Thank you for writing. Very well done!

Author's Response: It's always a relief to be able to post a completed story - congratulations! I'm so glad you enjoyed my short story. And thanks for the indepth review; it really helps with future stories. I'm not a big angst person (I'm shallow and love the whump) but sometimes a story really calls for some introspection from the characters that the show's writers seem unwilling, or are unable to give us. I'm hoping my story fulfills some needs. ;-)
