An intriguing'lesson' for the guys. It's easy to imagine that not being able to talk would really distress Rodney, but it was interesting to see John come to the realisation that he speaks to people more than he thought, even if it's just a passing greeting. I'm glad they finally figured out what needed saying to put it all behind them and go on with being friends.
