While I'm terribly sad that things aren't really much clearer between them, I applaud you for ending it there. Most authors, myself included, keep on going until they get their happily ever after, finding ways to get around DADT and other obstacles. It makes a change for them to face the obstacles, but not know (yet) how to get round them.
