Took John long enough! So glad Rodney hung in there.

Well done!

Lovely story.

I'm glad John has finally decided to try going for what he wants. I liked the style of this, with the various flashbacks alternating with the present and going some way to explaining why they weren't already together when they obviously loved each other.

I liked your characterisations, too. Everyone was spot on. I loved how Ronon and Teyla did their bit to try to break down John's walls, to reach him and show him he was loved and to plead for some aknowledgement in return. They were both good at reading John, at knowing much of what he felt, but I can certainly see why hearing it out loud would make it better.

As for Rodney, I loved how he put up with so much from John. He let himself be pushed away time and again, yet still stuck round, doing his best to make John see sense. It could've come off as Rodney seeming pitiful, trailing after John with no self-respect. But instead, Rodney seemed very strong to me, true to his feelings of love even when John was pushing him away with all his might, sticking with John even on the occasions he deserved so much better.

And John. I loved how he seemed so strong, yet so fragile. He had the strength of his convictions, the strength, stupid though it may have been, to keep Rodney at arms length when all he wanted was to pull him close. It was heroic in his own stupid fashion. Yet, seeing behind the scenes, seeing how he struggled with the most basic signs of affection for his team, and seeing how the losses through his life had left him in that place made him seem fragile.

I'm glad they're finally together and that John's decided to allow himself happiness and, more importantly, decided that Rodney is allowed to be happy with him, at last.

Here's hoping the Sonus device works- it willallow them much more time to be happy together instead of in mortal danger and will also give John fewer opportunities to relapse into his fears over making decisions based on Rodney being in danger.

Laura.
