Oh Rodney!! He's just so oblivious and has the worst timing ever in figuring out his own feelings. I loved reading this!

Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! :-)

*happy sigh* Yeah, actually, this is exactly the way I could see things happening between John and Rodney in canon, if TPTB weren't such terrible hacks and asshats.

Thank you for sharing this, it was a lovely way to spend part of my afternoon! I'm going to be saving this one on my hard drive to read again offline some time.

Author's Response: Aw, you don't know how that makes me smile! I do that with my favorite stories too, so that is a terrific compliment in my book!

Yeah, I totally agree. Change should occur because the person WANTS to for their own health and benefit that will then benefit others - not because they feel it's the only way anyone could ever care about them. Rodney is a prima donna and a jerk, but it's not ALL he is. He's a good guy, a great guy. Good that JOHN is smart enough to recognize that, hey? ^_~

Author's Response: Yeah, I get a little bugged by the idea that Jennifer was 'so good for Rodney'. To me there's a big difference between nagging someone to stop a bad habit (like smoking, because you love them) and asking for a fundamental change in personality. On the first date no less! I like the idea of John recognizing that yes, Rodney can be a real jerk, but that he loves him anyway. :-)

I let out a squeak of delight to find a new story by you posted. And now that I've read it, I squeak again! Most excellent, Madison! I really like that Rodney brought up the whole "Jennifer liked him best when he was not himself" bit and that Rodney actually tried to change himself because he thought it was the only way to get what he THOUGHT he wanted. And, yay for John deciding Rodney's worth it because love is involved!

Author's Response: Eeep! Sorry it took me so long to notice your very nice comments here! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I have to admit, I'm a little bugged by the idea that going into a relationship demanding that the other person change is deemed a healthy thing to do. Granted, people *do* change for other people. But if I went out with someone on a date and felt compelled to say, "Stop being yourself", I think I would stop going out with them. :-)

Yay, happy ending. I'm glad Rodney had his light bulb moment and managed to say the right thing to get John to stay.

Author's Response: I usually see the boys getting together before this late in canon--but sometimes it's just fun to write oblivious!Rodney and pining!John. I'm glad you enjoyed it--thank you!rnChapter 1
