Gorgeous. Everyone stays in character and real issues are grappled with, not swept under the rug.

Author's Response: Thank you, I was really hoping that it would be clear how tough this decision was for Jack. He doesn't feel like he truly had a choice. JiM? Is this the same JiM from the Harry Potter fandom? Author of one of my favorite unfinished Harry/Snape fics of all time? Icarus

A good story and a tough choice in a difficult situation. I enjoyed the story very much, and can say the only thing I could suggest to make it better would be some McShep...but the lack didn't subtract from a good story either. Perhaps you'll consider more and add that little bit. Thank you for sharing.

Author's Response: Thank you, Mystic. I have made several changes to the story over the last several months (my betas wanted more sense of what Jack and Daniel's life would be like in Atlantis, etc.) but I think I'm finally done. I'll definitely write more John/Rodney, and I've got quite a few in the works, but I confess, I have an unwritten rule of 'one slash pairing per story' unless there's good reason (such as a gay bar) there'd be so many gay men. I try to avoid what I call "slashworld." ;) Icarus

Wow. You put such a sad streak into an excellent story. Really made it hit home just how much the DADT policy sucks unwashed monkey balls here in the US. *beats closeminded assholes over their pointy little heads with dead llama* Then again, preaching to the choir here with me, hon. ;) Exquisite job. ----}-@

Author's Response: LOL. Unwashed monkey balls. *cracks up* Yes. Jack should have been able to stay at the SGC and stay with Daniel, and it shouldn't have been anyone's business. But DADT still inserts military policy into the bedrooms. Some of the toughest armed forces in the world allow gay men and women to serve. For example: Isreal. But it's traditional that when there's a war on these policies are relaxed... largely out of desperation for soldiers. The result is the armies that see the most military action are the ones with the most lenient policies. Icarus

What a delightful and sobering story! The world well lost, well maybe... I do wish you could continue it.

Author's Response: Thank you. Yes, Jack's happy with Daniel but no, it's not exactly what he would have chosen. Icarus
