I'm new to SGA so I've only just read this one! Domestic violence - yes I can read a little of this here, I can also see how John must feel - first he has his own guilt (however misplaced) and then he has Rodney's guilt to bear on top of that. However, John is a warrior first and foremost and he did his duty; he should be praised for this not castigated. Personally in this instance I'd like to give Rodney (much as I love him) a good swift kick up the backside and tell him to grow up, after all he's living in Pegasus now together with Wraith Replicators and God know what else, does he honestly think that this is a Sunday school picnic?

Author's Response: Well, I have to agree with you partially - Rodney's profoundly fucked up here, and so is John. I tend to see this particular story as something like this: John has all this misplaced guilt (not over torturing Caldwell, but over things like waking the Wraith and killing Sumner and losing Ford) so that he thinks he deserves to be hurt. And Rodney - I actually wrote this a long time ago, and now I'm not so sure about the Rodney characterization in it, but I was aiming for the idea that he was more profoundly traumatized by Kolya than we've seen, and that he just absolutely was not prepared at all for the realities of life in Pegasus. That combination - plus their complete lack of communication skills - creates a pretty fucked up situation where Rodney doesn't know how to broach the subject of what happened or his feelings about it, and John just *can't*. Hence the relationship in the fic. *shrugs* I'm glad you enjoyed it.rnrnAlso, welcome to SGA! I would recommend jumping over the livejournal and reading a lot of the fic there; a lot of very good writers post their stuff there before they come to Wraithbait, and some of them don't use the archive at all. My writing isn't exactly standard for the fandom. :)

Wow. This was very good and very dark...complex, I suppose. A bad cycle they've fallen into and can't break out of; John accepting Rodney's abuse through some sort of sense that he deserves it and Rodney unable to rein himself in after the horrific things he suffers at John's hands in his dreams. Definitely a few trips to Kate in order here. Laura.

Author's Response: I'm glad John's perspective came through as well - I was worried there wasn't enough to explain his acceptance. Thanks so much, babe, as always.

oh dear lord that was er something, dark a bit disturbing that rodney is taking revenge on john for soimething john can't repent for, and john letting himself be hurt. surprisingly realistic ideas of domestic abuse and written beautifully. :-)

Author's Response: Thanks so much. Glad you think it was realistic; I always worry about that.
