Oh. Just oh, John and Rodney. This is gorgeous, and beautiful and perfect. I loved it.
this is a great story. you don't overdo the angst, but all the tension is there, right under the surface, and you can tell how tired they are - you can feel it, and how they're getting old. you didn't over-romantisize, which is so common among slashfic, and it's incredibly real. yeah, i think I love this story - it's definately going in my favourite. Bittersweet 'til the end. the perfect mix of sadness and making-the-best-of-what-we've-been-dealt. is this post-The Return?
I LOVED this story. Boy, did I love it!!! Firstest, I used to have a '70 Impala. Mash that accelerator button, and you'll wish gas was still under a buck. I can SO see this car, and I really have empathy for how John felt about the boxes. Secondly, one of the possible routes between Springs and San Antonio goes on the road in front of my house, just a couple of blocks down the hill. I can see those two stopping at Jean's (our local diner with the white plates) for a burger and me running into them there. Lastest, the emotion in your words really sings to me. I can feel the love under the snark, I can smell the TexMex they didn't have, and see the unfamiliar grey jet, smelling the JP-5 (or whatever they're using these days), as the wash from the engine heats up the air on the flightline. This is just so full of 'realness' and possibilities. WOW!!! I have only one teeny, tiny complaint. There aren't any lush forests between Springs and San Antonio. Trust me on this. It's just too dry for lush. Now, I am going to go and read all your other stuff! Please, write more!!!

Wow, you could realy feel their emotinal pain in this one. How tired they were inside and thier struggle to be free and do what's right. Great job and thanks for sharing.
There's so much hurt just under the surface of this- the fact that they're on Earth seemingly unwillingly, that something went wrong and they were recalled. Something bad enough to leave Rodney all quiet and pale and John not much better. Yet, they're still together, keeping each other going even though they're carrying around an air of desperation. Even the sex had that desperate air to it, but it was good to see some semblance of themselves coming back gradually, the banter slowly coming back. Very poignant fic. Laura.

Very fine writing, excellent short tale. So much said in between the actual words. (They're going to be sorry when the rental place comes after them for the cost of the SUV though.)
