"Rodney?" Carson called as he walked into the quarters designated for himself. He'd figured Rodney was most likely in the shower, but as he tossed his jacket aside and looked up, he discover that his lover was laying in the bed, reading a book.
Nude.
Turning slowly, he acknowledged Carson with a raised eyebrow then went back to The Elegant Universe. He scratched his leg with his foot and Carson continued to watch his lover sprawled on the bed, being told, "I was hot and the ac controls are all the way over there."
Shaking his head, Carson made his way into the bathroom and stripped down. He'd had a long day and he'd been looking forward to a hot shower since lunchtime; he smiled and groaned as the warm water rolled over him. He was in heaven, tight muscles loosening and his eyes closing despite his will that they remain open.
Rodney slid into the shower behind him, "Gimme that." He gestured at the shampoo. Carson handed the item off happily. His energy levels were dropping quickly and he knew that Rodney would take care of him now that Carson was home, "Hey, stay awake for a couple more minutes."
Carson made a noise of protest, which lost its value as it was drown out by a louder moan – Rodney was doing that thing with his fingers again. The one that made Carson's legs turn to mush, "Oh, that's nice."
"So you've told me before."
Rodney eased his hands out of Carson's hair and stroked over the man's sides, "I heard what happened today."
"There was so much sand." Carson whispered, "I did not think Linderman was going to make it back to the gate in the heat." He remembered the expanse of desert, the angry whip of the winds that shot the sand at them. The sergeant had survived and was beginning to recover, though he'd have many long hours of physical therapy ahead of him.
Sighing, Carson pulled Rodney closer to him, hoping the memory would fade away as the crisis had by dinner, "I need to get right pissed."
"We have some of your Scotch left." Rodney turned the water off and all but pulled Carson out of the shower. They both quickly dried off, sharing one towel, and settled down on the couch with the decanter. An inch of Scotch was all that was left after three months of periodic drinks.
Rodney filled the shot glasses and they drank, each having their bit, "You pissed yet?"
Carson looked over at Rodney and snorted, "It'll take more than this to get me drunk, luv, but it doesn't matter." He shook his head and rose to his feet, unsteady from exhaustion. Rodney helped him to the bed; Rodney shoved him beneath the covers before crawling in beside Carson, "If you weren't so tired, I'd offer to," He waved his hand and added, "read to you."
"Read. To me." Carson smirked and closed his eyes, one arm went over Rodney's middle, "Read to me later."
"How about if I read to you to wake you up?"
He couldn't resist the laugh and Carson nodded while trying to stop smiling, "That would be fine, luv."
