I love your idea of using another character to let us see Rodney and John's relationship. The glimpse she got of them changing into 'team' mode during the robbery was brilliant; it shows how effective they are and how much Rodney has improved in 'combat' situations. Your character voices were spot on - very true to the originals :) I really enjoyed your original character Annabelle - she was really cool and really well written!

I very much enjoyed this follow-up to 'Second Best'. I really like the character of Jay and I was glad to see things happen in this story to challenge his insecurity about his place in Atlantis. I was so pleased when he realised that Rodney was in love with him just as much as he is in love with Rodney.

This was a beautifully written story and the dialogue, characterisation, and plot were all fab! I hope you feel like writing more fic about your alternate replacement versions of Sheppard and McKay in their respective 'verses.

Author's Response: Well, I\'ve decided we just can\'t have Octavus running around loose...but I\'m not sure what to do about him. And wouldn\'t it be cool if somehow both AU\'s intersected? If I come up with something workable, I\'ll definitely revisit the HopperVerse and--whatever the hell AURodney\'s universe is called--again. Thank you for your lovely feedback!

Great story - really enjoyed it. I loved the interaction between Ronon, Teyla, and Rodney. I thought Ronon winding Rodney up on purpose was really evil and interesting to read - I liked his POV of the John and Nancy interactions, as well as his Satedan interpretation of life on Earth. I was so pleased wit Teyla for trying to protect Rodney's feelings; she really does play the peacemaker between the lads. Teyla also knows that, despite his prickly exterior, Rodney can be hurt by those he loves.

Poor Rodney's insecurity about his attractiveness to John and his ability to be a good boyfriend for John was so touching. In the end I was so pleased that John showed he loves Rodney for being just the way he is. In the end they helped each other, just like they always do :)

Author's Response: After watching the ep, I couldn\'t help but think that anyone in a relationship with John would have be be intimidated to a degree as to all he left behind. Of course, Atlantis (and all that comes with it) is worth it! :-) I\'m so pleased that you enjoyed it!

Oh, I really enjoyed this instalment, this series is still as hot as ever and I find it touching too. I love the way you managed to balance these elements. I enjoyed the emphasis on the relationship between the boys in this 'letter'.

In this instalment I think I sense a change in the relationship between Rodney and John, and in how they feel about each other. The parts of the story that gave me that impression were Rodney feeling sure that he made John come more enthusiastically than Teyla could, and Rodney expressing his feelings on gifting his virginity to John e.g. he described John asclaiming me forever as his own, and he hinted at future developments that showhow our relationship developed and whether the power dynamics between John and myself were altered forever.

On John's side of the equation, when he's in bed with Rodney he says he wants to have Rodney every day, forever, plus John wants to mark Rodney and claim him.

So, can I be cheeky and ask please can we have more of the growing, deepening Rodney/John relationship???? In my head Rodney is writing these letters and they show stages on his personal journey of discovery which begins with swinging and ends up with him and John exclusively together. Then Rodney can write to Penthouse and chronicle their explorations in gay sex :D

Hmmm, it's a bit obvious that I'm a McShep OTP girl, isn't it ;)

Author's Response: I\'m a McShep OTP girl myself. I never expected to be writing threesomes or foursomes or het, so I\'m not quite sure where this series suddenly came from... but yes, it\'s likely to go more McShep, or at least it\'ll always have the strong core of the two of them. I\'m still playing around with #4, figuring it out in my head. Thank you very much for reading and enjoying!

Oh this is wonderful, I just love it to bits. It's so nice to see the relationship between Rodney and John developing slowly, and to see Rodney trying to take care of John without offending John's pride.

I love the fact that John wants to be Rodney's friend irrespective of feeling gratitude for all Rodney has done. He honestly just likes Rodney a lot and wants him as a friend.

I was so surprised and glad that Rodney was able to save John in the first place. It was nice to see Rodney and his friends letting John into their world and becoming his new 'family'.

I loved the way that John didn't freak out when Rodney showed him how he felt, he approached things rationally and kindly - I really liked that aspect of him. It showed that he really felt something for Rodney and wasn't just letting gratitude blind him. I also liked the fact that Rodney never expected any thanks for helping John, and that he didn't want John to feel obliged to be with him.

A touching, lovely story that really made my day :D

Author's Response: Thank you! It\'s weird answering feedback on this fic, \'cuz so much of me wants to say, \'that wasn\'t me, that was the bunny!\' I\'ve never written to that detailed of a bunny, so things like Rodney saving John were set up for me. But I did really love getting into the details of the relationship and developing it, trying to show John messed up from his experiences and life situation, and yet still be *John,* and creating a backstory to lead Rodney into joining the FBI. I\'m very happy that you enjoyed it. :-)

Wonderful story and very interesting take on John Sheppard as a character. I found the John in this story to be really true to the canon original even though he was also an Ascended being. The ending was particularly apt. Very clever and an enjoyable read!

Erm....wibble!?!?!!?

Wow, that was another great addition to the Penthouse series. I cannot believe how hot John was during the phone sex with Rodney. I love the fact that John wants to 'bend' the rules to keep elements of his and Rodney's relationship just for them!!

I loved how intense John and Rodney were together during Rodney's first attempt at a blowjob. I loved how John maintains contact with Rodney when they're both with Aiden, and I love possessive John who wants to keep parts of Rodney's body all for himself and who just can't get enough of Rodney in general.

I adore the narrative voice you use for these stories, the small interjections and asides are so 'Rodney' and they make the stories even better!

PS I also like the fact that Teyla and Katie seem to be developing a good relationship with each other too, they can keep each other occupied while the boys play ;)

Author's Response: Wibble away. :-) \r\n\r\nI really enjoy writing these fics, being so porny and fun, and sprinkling in Rodney being so Rodney. I never expected to write het, but the slash and het combined and developing multiple relationships while highlighting the McShep, is cool and exciting. It\'s lovely to know that they are enjoyed. Thank you!

I very much enjoyed this story and wanted to let you know that I'm a satisfied reader :)

I don't normally read Gen fic (I'm a McShepper to the core) but I always look for, and enjoy, stories with good characterisation, character study, and interesting plots - this fic had them all in spades.

I thought your characterisation of Sheppard was incredibly in keeping with what we've seen of him in Canon, it was also very consistent throughout the story, which strikes me as a hard task. John Sheppard is not an easy character to write, SGA writers don't give fans much to go on in terms of his motivations and his character; Joe Flanigan is much more helpful with his excellent portrayal (in my view his acting saves Sheppard from being flat and stereotypical) but even he can do only so much in terms of fleshing out Sheppard as he is limited by what he is given in scripts. The Sheppard in your story was wonderfully 3D and you brought him to life very believably, made his feelings, behaviours, and actions very plausible.

Your writing let us into the hidden parts of the Atlantis characters and let us see their neuroses and insecurities without ruining the capable outward personalities that we, as fans, love; you gave them extra depth and kept it all within the bounds of what we already knew about them. I really enjoyed your descriptions of Rodney, and the other Expedition members, while under the influence of Lucius (it was very chilling to see their behaviour through John's eyes), as well as the story of how they came to resist Lucius' pheromone control. You set up a highly dark, and dramatic, set of circumstances and yet kept the plot developments and character behaviour beliveable and not in the least melodramatic.

The plot was incredibly detailed from the basics of how John would live on a daily basis, to the descriptions of the planet he was exiled on, and the culture of the Alien race he met. It was all fleshed out very well and hung together in such a way as to really involve the reader in caring about what happened to everyone in the story. I found the plot genuinely interesting and was impressed by your world building.

I was genuinely worried during the tense parts of this story when the characters were taking potentially dangerous actions. And even at the end, although I was fairly sure that John would come back to Atlantis permanently, the possibility that John might not return to the City felt very strong. Your story made me worry for a while that he would be stubborn and leave to go back to Elba. I was so relieved when Rodney made the first chink in John's armour (by showing him that he cared for him and was truly sorry) and made John start on the road to wanting to come home again. I love convincing tension that turns into a positive ending, I like the characters to go through trials and tribulations but to ultimately get a reward.

I love a story that I can really inhabit and that makes me care what happens to the characters. I like to get goosebumps when I read and your story gave me that feeling. I am definitely saving this fic as a favourite :)

Greatly enjoyed reading this story.

Much as I love John, and understand that he's not the most emotionally self-aware man, there were times when I seriously wanted to throttle him in this story. There were other times when I was completely convinced that Rodney would finally give up and walk away. I'm very impressed that you always managed to fix things for them and that you made it feel okay each time J & R made up/got back together. You wrote their reconciliations in such as way that they didn't leave me feeling angry that Rodney was compromising or giving in somehow in the face of John's behaviour.

At the end, you really managed to convince me that John loved Rodney back just as passionately the whole way through the story but just hadn't a clue how to verbalise/display it.

Angsterrific!! :D

You fixed it!! Yay!!

I was so annoyed with Keller getting that moment at the end of the ep, particularly when it had been John all along that Rodney called for, looked for, and wanted to be with. FFS John was even touchy feely to comfort Rodney throughout all that happened to him, and Shep is usually not that way with anyone.

I just felt PTB tacking on a romantic moment for Keller was not a good choice to end what had been a wonderful plot up to that point. It had been a really strong ep from the John and Rodney friendship (or slasher) perspective and also from the Team!Shep perspective too.

I felt that Keller being shoehorned in as the 'focus' for Rodney's feelings at the end was so unfair to John, given all he'd done to help and support Rodney, and it was also unfair to Ronon and Teyla given their desire to help Rodney too. Everyone seemed ready to take a chance on curing Rodney except Keller, her behaviour really got on my nerves :(

So I'm glad that you've written this fic to give John and Rodney their ending - in my head, what you've written is now part of what really happened :D

I really do enjoy your SGA/Culture crossovers. You really capture the spirit and voice of the Culture novels and make the SGA characters fit into the Culture verse so convincingly while retaining their essential natures. I absolutely loved Rodney's full Culture name - so bloody clever of you! I really hope you feel inspired to write more Rodney/John stories in this verse :D

I stayed up late last night, just so I could read this story in one sitting, and it was absolutely worth every minute of being tired and sleepy at work today :)

I have loved each and every one of your Second Chance series to date, I'm always in awe of the ideas you come up with for these AUs and how you examine the various facets of the canon characters via their AU counterparts. I love the fact that you always get the canon and AU versions to interact with each other somehow, that is always truly fascinating as it allows us to compare them and it allows them to see how they could have been if things had gone differently in their lives.

I found the worldbuilding you did for the AU in which John is injured to be so interesting - you really brought this alternate world to life with the level of detail and emotion you described. I felt I got a really good handle on what made AU John tick and consequently a bit more of an insight into canon Sheppard. The mechanism by which you brought AU John in contact with canon Atlantis was very intriguing, also it was a very subtly developed plot element because I never suspected that his little keepsake would have such an immense effect on his life, even more so than the 'dreams' he experienced.

The juxtaposition of AU John's life as a crippled, disillusioned but bravely battling man, with his experiences of his alternate self's life in Atlantis was so painful to read but so rewarding also. It made me so pleased for him when he finally got to meet Rodney and got to start his life all over again. I was sad that Sheppard had to 'die' to allow this to happen, but in the end I enjoyed the happy ending all the more because it was tinged with sadness.

I hope you feel inspired to write more of these types of stories!!

Author's Response: Wow, I\'m really impressed with the time and thought you put into this FB here; you have no idea how helpful and pleasing I find such FB to be. I really feel that FB such as this has gone a long way to teach me something about the mechanics of storytelling since I first started writing in this fandom.:-)\r\n\r\nI\'ve really enjoyed exploring different aspects of the characters by looking at them from a slightly skewed viewpoint and I have to say, I\'m already contemplating what the Atlantis expedition would have looked like if *Rodney* hadn\'t gone initially. Let me tell you, it ain\'t pretty! As a matter of fact, it\'s so grim at the moment that it might take me a while to figure out how to make it better in the end. \r\n\r\nI am so very pleased you\'ve enjoyed this series! Thank you!
Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Going 'Home'

Summary: Rodney McKay thought his biggest failure was the Arcturus Project and the destruction of 4/5ths of a solar system. John Sheppard thought losing his confidence in Rodney was the hardest loss he would ever face.

But their most terrible failures were yet to come, and they would each face losing everything, including themselves.

I absolutely adore 'Aegis' so I was incredibly pleased to see another story in that verse. I was so impressed that you once again managed to successfully weave your own story very convincingly around key canon events from S2. I am actually hoping you will want to do more of this and that you will write an Aegis-verse fic for each season of SGA.

I really felt such pity for Rodney when he was trapped in the Daema's household - he was so lost, so powerless, and so downtrodden, it's horrible to see him that way. The Daema's daughter was an interesting character in that she tried to be better than her mother and she tried to treat people as equals but she couldn't quite shake her upbringing. I felt so sorry for Kestine when Amagy was imperious with her :(

John retreating back into his old ways was heartbreaking to read, it had been such a struggle for him (and Rodney) to get him to the point he had reached before their falling out and Rodney's subsequent kidnap. It was bloody tough to see him be so hard on himself and to see him hate himself so much. And if losing Rodney wasn't enough, it was heartbreaking to see John's deal with the retrovirus conversion and his guilt over what he did to Conroy.

I was so glad you gave the story a happy ending, an ending which you did in your own inimitable style - I think leah and springwoof happy endings are always tinged with a little sadness to make the reader appreciate the happy elements that little bit more.

Author's Response: Thank you very much for your wonderful comment, Ciar. :D I\'m so glad you enjoyed \"Aegis\" and this sequel, and thrilled that you liked the original characters! I\'m both flattered and honoured that the story moved you, and I know SpringWoof will be as well. It\'s an interesting thing that you said about the ending--we do go for a tinge of melancholy, don\'t we? I hadn\'t thought about that before. It just seemed the best way to end the stories. Thank you for giving me something to muse on. :) Leah

A really nice follow-on from 'Exile'. I really enjoyed the idea of Rodney and John living in domestic bliss together.

I also greatly enjoyed your commentary on the TPTB and SGU, I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said!!

Author's Response: I must admit, I have a weakness for seeing little snippets of a life of domestic bliss for R & J, only I see them as only being interludes until they go back to the business of their \'real\' lives. :-) As for the snide-fest, venting in this manner has been my defense against moping excessively for what passes as excutive decision-making by TPTB. Blimey, I really enjoyed this story :D It was both a beautifully written and plotted romantic story and a very believable exploration of the SGA characters. Reading it gave me tingles of anticipation and smiles of happiness - I could easily picture it all happening as I read.

The story also worked for me on another level too because, whilst being a fantastic story, it was also a masterful refutation of McKeller. The plot and writing of your story analysed and demonstrated how McKeller fails on so many levels. It ably demonstrated how well McShep works, by deftly contrasting Rodney's relationship with Keller and John and showing the glaring differences between his reactions towards each and his feelings for each, plus it uses canon events as support in doing so, as well as the authors' understanding and knowledge of the characters.

It has to be said that you trump the SGA writers in your exploration of Rodney and his love life, his friendships with others in his team and on Atlantis, and his relationship/best friendship with John. Not for the first time, since I discovered slash and fandom, I found myself reading this story and desperately that fandom writers could submit story ideas for filming.

I will definitely be counting this story as a favourite :D

Author's Response: We\'re so glad you enjoyed this! We had lots fun writing it together and tying everything into canon - we\'re both completely convinced that this is how things *really* played out. The John/Rodney relationship makes so much more sense than the Rodney/Keller one! Thank you so much for your lovely comment & compliment. xxx

Gosh, you do write such good stories!!! I love the plots you come up with.

I think this story, summed up Rodney and John's characters so well: Rodney is stronger, kinder, and braver than he thinks he is; John feels a strong guilt for waking the Wraith, very protective of his team, and a desire to sacrifice himself for the common good. Both men feel an awful lot for each other and both men worry that to admit his feelings would destroy their friendship.

You managed to convey these traits in John and Rodney in such subtle ways and to give insights into their characters by their behaviour and actions throughout the story.

Another favourite McShep story for my list :)

Author's Response: You have no idea how much I appreciate such detailed FB--I really credit feedback with teaching me an awful lot about writing in the last two years since I\'ve been posting online. Thank you!

Oh Sandy, that is such a sweet story. You managed to give us an AU view of John while keeping it all within the SGA canon universe - how clever!!

I felt so sorry for your Corporate!John and when he met Rodney I not only flashed back to Quantum Leap, I felt the palpable pang of longing and connection John felt for Rodney even though he thought he didn't know him.

This gave me goosebumps, it had so many moments in it that made me sigh, thanks so much for posting :D

Author's Response: Thank you so much for the very kind review. After learning about John\'s background in \"Outcast\", I just couldn\'t help but think of how miserable John would be running the family business, and how lonely he would be if he never found Rodney. That was the genesis for the story. I\'m very glad you liked it. :-)
