Okay, I'm female, 32 and live in Leicester, UK. Big fan of sci-fi in general and obviously Atlantis :). I'm also a huge slash fan. I'll read anyone with Sheppard...does that make me a Shepslut? I particularly like John/Carson and John/Rodney, and better yet John/Carson/Rodney mmmmm. Edited to add Radek...John/Radek or John/Radek in a threesome (or even foursome) with Carson or Rodney *vbg*.
Oh, and Lorne, as well ;).
John and Rodney in the first year of the expedition. Sometimes love is a journey, sometimes it's a gantlet, and sometimes it's a baptism by fire.

I decided to reread the earlier chapters to refresh my memory, so I've just finished reading this from start to finish. I know I've reviewed at least once before, so I may end up repeating myself, but this is just such a brilliant story, especially for a first attempt (at least when it began *g*). The various plots were exciting, and alarming in parts. I enjoyed how you tied the episodes into it, but also had your own missions, with their own perilous results for John and Rodney both...Still, it gave them ample opportunity to worry over each other :). I loved how the kept retreating to balconies to be alone, but often ended up finding the other one there already. Plainly meant for each other ;). All the characterisations were spot-on, especially John and Rodney's (not really surprising considering it was about them). They're really quite similar in their reactions, both so very insecure and afraid at times that it's painful to see. I'm really impressed by the way you caught their professional and personal selves. We all expect Rodney to be the arrogant genius and John the laconic flyboy, teasing and bantering with each other, and you did that excellently. But the real tour de force was the real them underneath the facades. Rodney flitting between desire for and anger at John, but never losing the concern and worry for him even as he pushed Rodney away so hurtfully. So sad when John shut him out and not willing to let him back in again once John had decided that he wanted Rodney. I could understand his reasons even as I wanted to shake some sense into him. I had the same conflicting feelings for John when he freaked and pushed Rodney away, making them both so miserable, but not knowing how to fix it. Both times he thought he'd killed Rodney, you really caught his shock, guilt, horror and self loathing. I was pleased that they started to mend the bridges, and finally seemed to have got it at the end there. The ending was full of hope; they reached an understanding and Rodney was willing to be patient for John. I'm happily imagining John coming to terms with their relationship quite quickly now they've actually had a talk about stuff. Great story, I'm going to have to add it to my favourites :). Laura.
Chapter 7: A Little Bit Like Hope
Rodney uses his strengths to figure out matters of the heart.

I'm glad Rodney's finding that having fun with John is easier than he'd feared. I liked the Mission Impossible theme and how it was from a completely different film. I also liked Rodney's mixture of awe and fear at John's stealthy avoiding ability. Laura.
Author's Response: Laura, thanks! I thought it would be a bit funny, if at least a bit embarassing for John, if he got the theme song from some where different.
One year later he has the perfect present to give.

Oh, so very sad. Lots of emotion in so few words. Poor Rodney, making the ferris wheel even though it would only gather dust, just because he felt it should be done for John. Laura.
Author's Response: Thanks, Laura. This was an emotional piece to write, glad you liked it.
Chapter 1: One Year Later
Yay, John's back :). I loved this. It was a great contrast to the despair of the first chapter and it was fitting that Rodney's memorial to John became a celebration of all those firsts. I wonder what John's thoughts were about kids. Laura.
Author's Response: A friend asked for a happy story and this seemed to fit her request. Thanks for all the lovely feedback, it's great!
Chapter 2: Two Years Later
After a rescue mission gone wrong, the team is stranded on an alien planet. In race against time, John and Rodney struggle with physical and emotional injuries.

I hope the guys find the dart and can use it to leave the planet, it's looking dire for SGA-1 otherwise. Though I'm pleased that Rodney is better after John healed him. I hope John won't get into too much trouble...surely Chaya, of all people, will understand. As for the dream realm...no one left but John and Carson? *meep* I wonder what will happen next. Laura.
*Eep* John! I'm glad Carson was able to bring him back and I hope he'll hang on and fight. But now what's happened to Carson? Nothing good, I'm sure. And Markham and Stackhouse too. Just what is happening in the dart? It was nice to see dream Carson being caring for once. I wonder how long it will last for. Laura.
Well, yay, they're finally (mostly) on the way home, but nooo, I hope they figure out how to warn Atlantis it's them before Luca blows them up ::bites nails::. I can't wait to see what happens next- will John recover once he's in the infirmary? What about Markham? And Teyla and Ford? Plus there's still Rodney out on his own...and I think I'm going to have to reread a few chapters because I can't remember what happened to Bates ::glares at feeble brain:: Laura.
Unrequited and requited smut. John/Rodney, Rodney/Beckett, Beckett/Zelenka.

Poor Rodney, finding out his dream guy's already taken...still, it'll be good for John to learn that *his* dream guy is available. Poor Stackhouse getting all worn out by Simpson too *g*.
Missing scene for the end of '38 minutes'. After getting half the story from Simpson, Rodney confronts Calvin... (McKay/Kavanagh)

::covers eyes, hides under desk:: This is just wrong in that sort of 'can't-look-away' way. I really hope Rodney comes to his senses quickly *g*. Laura.
Chapter 1: The right thing, the wrong way...
Heh, good old Radek stirring things up. Looks like John was as oblivious as Rodney. Laura.
Chapter 2: The almighty gossip...
Loved Kavanagh's "Does he know that?" *g*. Poor John, it seems everyone knows except himself and Rodney :). I was amused at John's rather vehement denial *bg*. Laura.
Chapter 3: Dredging the rumor mill...
Oops. I just knew someone would see that photo *g*. If it was anyone other than Kavanagh, I'd hope that Rodney would be able to explain everything, but I find myself hoping that Kavanagh refuses to be swayed and breaks up with him (which is propably a bit mean of me) *vbg*. Laura.
Chapter 4: Rumble in the Jungle
Loved it, both Carson and John's chats with Rodney. I can't wait to see what the result is. Laura.
Chapter 5: Aim to Please...
Yep, peer pressure *made* them get together ::rolls eyes::. I liked that John's reason for being so vehement was because he hadn't seen what everyone else did until it was too late. I'm glad it turned out not to be too late after all :). Laura.
Chapter 6: You know it's only love...
Some secrets can be hidden for only so long.

Excellent story; very emotional and intense. After the first chapter, I was sad, but understanding of Rodney's need to be away from John. It was sad to learn what John had done. But then we get to the heart of the matter in chapter two, and OMG was it horrifying what his father had done to him! I could cheerfully join Rodney in his murder spree. It was very disturbing to see John like this, so different to his usual smirk and calm control; but it was also great to see that he trusted Rodney enough to tell him when he's never told anyone else. And then he trusted Rodney to make love with him. I was left with a satisfying feeling of hope for them both and their obviously strong love. Laura.

Well, at least they're no longer in denial to themselves...now they need to move on to not being in denial to each other :). Some excellent banter between them, and great thoughts too. Laura.
Author's Response: sorry i've drawn this out so long... i promise you some good teen-rated stuff in the next chapter... i'm glad you're liking the banter, though!
Yay John! I'm so glad that they've finally both arrived on the same page...especially after seeing how the denial and holdig back was hurting the very friendship it was meant to save. Looking forward to more :). Laura.
Author's Response: and more is to come! i'm glad you're happy with it, though, in reality you should be very, very frustrated with me because the amount of time it took me to get this up proves that i am a horrible, horrible person ^^;;
Yay, worth the wait to see them finally getting on with it, though I was worried that they were going to think themselves out of it in the middle there. It was great to see them decide to just go with it for once. Very hot, and I loved the teasing banter at the end *g*. Laura.
Author's Response: oh yay, i'm so glad you liked it. yes, they had a bit of a shaky moment in the middle there but i wasn't about to let them back out after i had made you all wait so long!
I simply loved this chapter. All that...that...*Rodneyness*. I had to laugh at him off on a proper rant, waving his fork around and stealing all of John's breakfast and coffee. Radek was funny too, with his long-suffering dodging and complaining about Rodney's deadly weapon :). I also had to chuckle at John pinching Rodney's food in return, the fight over the coffee and his amusement at Radek's speculating looks :). Great chapter and written very much in character. I can't decide whether I should feel sorry for Keithly and co. or not. They do seem to have done something remarkably stupid after all...but maybe multiple hanging is a little harsh? *vbg*. Looking forward to Rodney's 'payment' for the coffee he stole...which will be in the next chapter, right? Laura.
Author's Response: i'm so glad you liked it! and while i also feel sorry for the pho-scientists, alas, they had to be dispatched of. it's just Rodney's way ^.~ and yes, you can definately look forward to payment in the next chapter! *winks* and thanks for the review!
Great characterisations here. I loved John all stiff-backed and fake smiles; Rodney in one of his more spectacular rants, pacing and flailing included; and Carson pleased for his friends, but not willing to completely let the matter go without ample teasing first. Laura.
Author's Response: i'm glad you enjoyed this chapter and feel that the characterizations were right. compliments make my day *blushes* thanks!
