Okay, I'm female, 32 and live in Leicester, UK. Big fan of sci-fi in general and obviously Atlantis :). I'm also a huge slash fan. I'll read anyone with Sheppard...does that make me a Shepslut? I particularly like John/Carson and John/Rodney, and better yet John/Carson/Rodney mmmmm. Edited to add Radek...John/Radek or John/Radek in a threesome (or even foursome) with Carson or Rodney *vbg*.
Oh, and Lorne, as well ;).
Rodney sees dead people. (Spoilers for Season 2!)

This was all very powerful and moving stuff, but I think the highlight for me was when Rodney didn't want to look in John's eyes because his not fearing death was just as scary to Rodney as his own fear of dying was. Perhaps these two extremes need each other to level themselves out a bit. Laura.

Poor Rodney, he really is rather slow considering he's a genius. Still, he got the idea in the end :). Laura.
Chapter 1: The Weather With You
When on an offworld mission, the team stumble on a facility with a sinister purpose.

Hey, this was great. It had a good mix of action, things blowing up, drama, tension, peril and snark. And it was an intriguing idea about the Wraith too, the show hasn't yet addressed just where baby Wraith come from, but you made a plausible case. The characterisations were excellent too. Laura.
Author's Response: Thanks, Laura, we're glad you liked it. We're pleased you liked our idea of how the Wraith reproduce - we'll have to see if it's anything like what the show comes up with, won't we? :-) And it's always nice to hear when someone thinks we've got the characterisations right. Thank you again. :-)
Chapter 1: What are Little Wraith Made Of?
Rodney learns a lesson.

I don't know how I missed this before, because it certainly deserved a look. So far it's heartbreaking. Rodney's chapters really showed his hurt and lack of self-confidence brought on by his friends ignoring him- John especially. It was sad that he felt he had to leave Atlantis and all her wonders. It was sadder still when he realised he couldn't stop the bomb and chose to take the ship far enough away to save everyone else. So very heroic for a man who doesn't believe he can be. And then there's John. I was angry with him throughout Rodney's chapters, but it was tempered when I read his story, learnt that he'd built the distance for his own good, just as Rodney did. This also became very heartbreaking as John's feelings finally made themselves known to him far too late and then the letter just piled on the guilt. I'm glad Ronon was there at the end. Can't wait for more. Laura.
Author's Response: Thanks so much for your long-winded feedback! The next chapter is ready to post, as soon as submissions are turned back on.
It was both heartening and heartwrenching to see how Rodney's death affected the whole expedition. Then there was Ronon and Teyla, showing their own pain in their constant hovering over John. The revelation of Rodney being found alive was a huge joy, only for most of it to be crushed by Rodney's amnesia. Laura.
Author's Response: Thanks, Larua, for your kind reviews - I love them! It's very interesting to see the different perspectives people take and how they affect others.
*Meep* I want to be able to forgive Rodney, because he's forgotten their friendship...but it's so hard to do when he was so unremittingly hurtful towards John. Maybe a little of it was justified, maybe John took the odd thing too far, and maybe I should be struggling to forgive him too. But seeing his utter devastation at Rodney's tirade, at how much he'd apparently misread their teasing and bantering, seeing that disturbing suicidal edge creeping back in to set up home with his self-loathing and despair pretty much had me wanting to hug him and hurt Rodney. Deliciously angsty. Laura.
Author's Response: It's been great to see how people have responded differently to Rodney's verbal attack and attitude towards John. Thanks again for your review.
Such an emotional rollercoaster! A few minutes ago I was ready to punch Rodney for his cruel words to John, along with his less than olite dismissal of Teyla...and then he revealed the heart of his cruelty, that he's trying to keep the distance from these people whom he considered friends and yet, they know so little about him. Now I want to hug him. It's very exhausting. Laura.
Author's Response: Yeah, it sucks to be anyone in this story right now - but especially Rodney. It's good to know the emotional turmoil is coming through to the readers. :)
Yay Ronon for both the tending and the simple, yet real, emotion. I know Rodney's been particularly harsh, but doctoring his food seems excessive. Was Miko involved in the plan, or just an unwitting pawn? She doesn't seem the type, even with Rodeny being so unbearable. I'm half anticipating, half dreading what will happen to the scientists. Will Ronon and/or John deal with them in some similarly unpleasant way? Will John be angry at his friend's induced illness, or has he shut himself down so much that he won't react to it? And what of Rodney; will Ronon's words have any noticable effect? Can't wait to see. Laura.
Author's Response: Thanks again for the great review! As far as Miko, no, she was an unwitting pawn in the whole thing. As to how the other scientists will be dealt with or what will happen to them, I haven't yet decided.
Great chapter. Trust Ronon to find a way under Rodney's skin. It figures that stoic and near-silent support would break through Rodney's walls much quicker than any words. Words can be ignored or twisted to fit the desired outcome. Ronon? Not so much *g*. Of course, it didn't hurt that he got himself injured (and yes, Rodney, it was *all* just a ploy to guilt trip you into caring! ::rolls eyes::) I loved that John and Radek borrowed a leaf from The Book of Dressing Down, by Dr Rodney McKay and that it threw Rodney for a loop :). HOpefully this will all convince Rodney to stay for now. Laura.
Author's Response: Thanks so much, Laura! Actually, there is bound to be more angst as our beloved Rodney just isn't 'that' easy! LOL And you're right about Ronon, talk can be cheap.
It was good to see Rodney recognising what he has with the people on Atlantis, his friends...his *family*. But then it was all just a dream and reality came crashing back in on a wave of bleakness :(. Hopefully Rodney will start trying to reclaim that feeling of home. Laura.
Author's Response: Unfortunatly for everyone involved, the angst isn't over with just yet. Hopefully soon but...no promises. :)
A grim encounter with an alien presence leaves Elizabeth, and everyone else, in bad shape.

Interestin hypotheses on Rodney's part, I'd be interested to see just what the reason for Elizabeth's attack actually was. Poor Elizabeth though, not a nice thing to keep seeing :(. I liked the way John, Carson and Rodney supported her, especially when they gently tag teamed her into accepting something to help her sleep :). The way the story was told in flashback was great too, gradually building up the events while still continuing with the present as well. Laura.
John thinks about the events that brought him to Atlantis. A series of episode-related POVs by Orithain & Rina, some looking at the same events from both perspectives, some with completely different takes on the episodes.

Great Rodney voice here...well, thoughts, at any rate :). I'm glad he's finally managed to score one against the universe, even if it is a little tarnished and dinged. And I liked his thought about making a friend in Sheppard :). Laura.
Chapter 2: Atlantis Rising: Rodney
You've really caught John here. I loved the way he questioned what he was doing and how he got there, but didn't actually ever think about stopping doing it :). And it was great that he knew Rodney would be able to straighten out his thinking even after so little time of knowing him. Laura.

Wow...I don't know where to begin! I loved the characters in this. It was bittersweet catching up with Aiden, especially once he stranded the others. It was particularly heartbreaking when he spoke to Teyla that last time, and said that he knew he wasn't thinking right anymore. That somehow seems worse than if he was unaware of the changes. I wonder what in particular it was about John that set him off? As for the other three, it was great to see how they each coped with being stranded. I particularly liked the struggle John went through before accepting that he couldn't save Ford. It surprised me that I wasn't surprised to see John being the one to have the most trouble. I enjoyed the gradual development of their relationship; from a need to keep John grounded through to love? It was good thatthey struggled at times too, especially when John had (yet another) crisis once they were able to leave for home. I'm glad that Teyla and Rodney were able to convince him otherwise :). I also liked the way John and Rodney almost accidentally ended up together rather than simply with Teyla :). We had humour too, with them misconstruing Teyla's sudden distance and her amusement at them *g*. And, of course, you can't have John and Rodney without the arguing and snarking...which you did excellently. A great story all round. Laura.
Rodney doesn't remember.

This is great. I think that final line makes the fic, it *is* ironic that he doesn't remember the things that shape him the most. I suppose it's true of most people. And most of the things he doesn't remember are probably for the best anyway :). Laura.
Author's Response: Thanks. I'm glad you liked it. (don't tell anyone, but I thought of the last line before I wrote the rest of the fic. :D)
He'll always remember the phone call.

Oh, sad :(. So much angsty saddness, which is great for me, but not poor Rodney or John. You fix it in the next chapter right? Right!? Laura.
Author's Response: ...erm... well... *g* Thank you.
Oh no, still sad. You didn't make it better for them :(. More great angst though. Landry needs a good punch *grrr*, Kavanagh too- I demand you write a sequel with just such an event in it *g*. Laura.
Author's Response: Alas, no. I'm evil. *g* Thank you, Laura. Always look forward to your reviews.
Gah! Nooo! Not a semi-happy ending. *NOT*! Stupid Kavanagh, stupid Landry *glares*. Is...just....ack! I'm too sad to write anything more coherent. ::wails mournfully:: ::hugs John::. Laura.
Author's Response: Awww. *hugs* Nope, not semi-happy. I was thinking about continuing this a while ago but alas, I'm a sadist. :) Thank you, Laura.
Sam has a sick sense of humor, John doesn't fish, Teal'c watches QVC, Rodney never did see the end of The Sixth Sense, Elizabeth says 'We are not amused', Daniel ate the cookies and Jack is bored. (Co-Written with Auburn)

Oh, there're so many great things in this story that I couldn't possibly mention them all. But particular favourites were: the SG-1 cameos; the friendship between John and Rodney, with Rodney offering his package to John, and John's anger at Carter for being cruel (even if she wasn't in the end *g*); Elizabeth pinching the vodka whne John told her she couldn't have his beer; and finally, the little bittersweet moment over Ford's fishing rod :(. And Rodney's probably right- Teyla's bound to catch something even if that's not the point :). Laura.
Despite Rodney's fantasies, John Sheppard was never going to appear naked in Rodney's bed with warm brownies in exchange for an explanation of String Theory. If Rodney was lucky, he might ask for an explanation of string.
Updated: 02 Aug 2005; Published: 02 Aug 2005
Hee, yay for telepathic goo :). Poor Rodney's toe, but he managed to struggle manfully onwards *g*...maybe John can kiss it better for him now...or just distract him from it completely :). Laura.
